 Overview

This program will provide a forum for people working in hyperbolic conservation laws, kinetic equations, mathematical physics, scientific computation, and engineering to jointly promote the research on the kinetic equations for the rarefied gas dynamics in NUS. This program will offer a series of comprehensive tutorial lectures by senior scientists from rarefied gas theory, semi-conductor industry, and nonlinear hyperbolic PDE to train PhD students and people who are interesting in those topics.

 Activities

Period I: 1 - 26 Nov 2010

The sub‐theme of this period is: Asymptotic theory in Boltzmann equation and mathematical theory for hyperbolic conservation and kinetic equation. There will be tutorial lectures, a workshop, informal seminars, and free discussions on research.

Tutorial Lecturers

• Claude Bardos (University of Paris VI, France)

• Benoit Perthame (Pierre and Marie Curie University, France)

• Yoshio Sone (Kyoto University, Japan and Academia Sinica, Taiwan)

• Shih-Hsien Yu (National University of Singapore)

* Our office will be closed on the following dates being Singapore public holidays.
- Friday, 5 Nov 2010 - Deepavali
- Wednesday, 17 Nov 2010 - Hari Raya Haji

Period II: 29 Nov - 3 Dec 2010

Title: International Conference on Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations: Mathematical Theory, Computation, and Applications

Period III: 6 - 17 Dec 2010

The sub‐theme of this period is: On macroscopic and microscopic flows. There will be a workshop, informal seminars, and free discussions on research, but the topics of this period are rather diverse.

Students and researchers who are interested in attending these activities and who do not require financial aid are requested to complete the online registration form.

The following do not need to register:

  • Those invited to participate.
  • Those applying for financial support.

 Funding for Young Scientists

The Institute for Mathematical Sciences has limited funds to cover partial support for travel and living expenses for young scientists interested in participating in the program. Applications should be received at least three (3) months before the commencement of the program. Application form is available in (MSWord|PDF|PS) format for download.

Application for financial support is closed.
